Anti wrinkle injections (sometimes referred to as botox, although this is a brand name) are an effective way of minimising the appearance of fine fines and wrinkles, creating a smoother complexion.

What is Botulinum toxin?

Botulinum toxin used in cosmetic procedures is a protein derivative of the naturally occurring chemical produced by the clostridium botulinum. It blocks the transmission of chemical signals from the nerves to the muscles, which temporarily weakens the movement of the local muscles.

How long will antiwrinkle injections last?

Everybody is unique. Results can be seen within 2 weeks of your initial appointment and can last on average approximately 3months until a ‘top up’ is required to maintain the effect. Leah will keep a record of the doses administered and adjust according at future visits.

Are antiwrinkle injections safe?

Botulium toxin is a regulated medicine and therefore has a high margin of safety. It is not advised during pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding.

If the protein migrates to an unwanted site it can cause weakness and drooping of the eyebrow, eyelid or facial asymmetry. This is rare. Side effects are uncommon but can cause bruising, swelling, temporary headache and rash.

Dermal Fillers are based on hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring chemical produced by the body, it supports the function of the skin and is considered as the skins internal moisturiser. Dermal fillers are used to create and restore volume or fill lines arounds around the face, giving a more enhanced, youthful appearance.

How long do dermal fillers last?

On average the effects last approximately 6-12 months. The effect depends on the area treated and the condition of the skin, lifestyle is a big factor.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Side effects from dermal fillers are uncommon but can include hypersensitivity reactions or firmness, nodules or discolouration to the skin uncommon and typically temporary. Due to the use of a needle there is likely to be some swelling, redness and bleeding at the injection sites. This can cause some discomfort but is temporary and will improve within 1 week.
